QUESTION:

Dear Garden of Healing Pet Advisor:

Are grapes and raisins just for Us Humans?

ANSWER:

Absolutely! Do not feed your dog raisins or grapes.

As few as 7 raisins or grapes could be toxic to your beloved pet.

Pet owners whose dogs have ingested even a small quantity of grapes or raisins, or veterinarians managing such cases, are encouraged to call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) immediately.

ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center
(888) 426-4435

Due to the severity of symptoms and the potential for death, the veterinarians at the National Animal Poison Control Center (NAPCC) advocate aggressive treatment for any dog believed to have ingested any amount of grapes or raisins, as this can cause acute renal failure and death.
