NATURAL HEALTH
Natural Care; Modern Medicine offers Flawed Approach
By Arlie Ian Maylin
Have you ever wondered why certain diseases seem never fully treatable? Ever asked yourself why so many side effects from medications have literally created cottage industries around themselves?
Was the human body really designed to handle the stress of never-ending health issues?
It seems we just keep patching up our health problems with temporary fixes, instead of eliciting a full or complete healing. Why?
Many blessings and miracles have sprung from Western Medicine, and as a result, the average person now aims to live much longer than in times past.
Rapid technological advances have their share of disadvantages. As technology progresses, new and unusual health problems have arisen.
For example, after the industrial revolution, processed foods became increasingly popular due to their marketability. These new foods were convenient to produce on a mass scale. And not surprisingly, the human body responded to these changes in diet the best it could. There were unforeseen reactions, like anything from frequent constipation, to diseases of the colon, and even to Crohn's disease.
There have been studies showing a sharp increase in appendicitis among early 19th century African slaves after adapting to a diet of processed foods. Change can be good, but not in all cases, especially when it comes to the balance needed for digestive health.
As the human body began suffering from new digestive problems attributed to these dietary changes, modern medicine came to the rescue by attempting to cure the symptoms, but without truly addressing the cause of any deeper biological in-congruence.
For example, with the advent of modern surgical and anesthetic techniques, many people in First World nations divorced themselves from older methods of treatment.
How often do you consciously practice the highest form of health care - Prevention?
When it comes to digestive health, prevention is key.
Pills and surgery have become all too common as preferred and recommended treatments by most health authorities. People seem disinterested in the connection between the long term consequences of the very quick fixes they seek.
How about addressing the deeper issues causing disease in the first place?
The most popular quick fixes are chemical-based medications.
Because of the effect that chemistry can have on the body, the most obvious results from drugs can only be seen on the surface. What could be hiding is a darker reality that can manifest itself in the form of random side-effects. In more extreme cases, these side effects can damage your immune system or cause other disorders to develop.
Most people opt for surgery not knowing there might be anything better out there, like a more natural approach with gradual healing in mind?
There’s an old Chinese adage … “all health is digestive health” and this is so true.
A better way to prevent digestive problems is by relying on a more natural lifestyle, and by attempting to follow the diet of the hunter/gatherer or a Paleolithic diet.
While becoming a hunter/gatherer is largely impractical, there are many other things you can eat and natural approaches you can take to improve digestive health.
The Paleo diet is a nutritional concept based on the ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various human species habitually consumed during the Paleolithic period.
The foods I am talking about are commonly available modern ones like lean meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, and nuts.
Based on the idea that human genetics have scarcely changed since the dawn of agriculture, the Paleolithic diet assumes that modern humans are more genetically adapted to the diet of their Paleolithic ancestors.
Building upon the principles of evolutionary medicine, the paleo diet would therefore seem the ideal for human health and well-being because it most resembles one's ancestral diet.
Some believe that people who subsist on a traditional diet similar to those of Paleolithic hunter-gatherers are largely free of diseases, and that such diets produce good health.
Are there any Paleo dieters out there who can verify this?
My point here is that such a diet would increase your chances of producing a healthy digestive tract.
Cancer treatments also have a downside. It has been scientifically documented that many cases of terminal illness are a result of the cancer treatment than from the cancer itself.
We have to ask ourselves if our “treatments” are literally overkill. What about more gentle approaches that get to the root of the problem?
As Economics and the Media in the First World push the masses to instant gratification, your desire is to see quick fixes reflected in health care. Don't ignore or downplay the efficacy of traditional methods of prevention. The key is to recognize your need for a quick fix and to not place your health at risk by running after whatever is considered “conventional”.
Think!
The Media and the advertising industries are funded by capital-rich pharmaceutical corporations which might or might not have your best interests in mind.
This is the unfortunate side of medicine where some technological advances are led by oligarchs, rather than by pure common sense - and for the common good.
Be sure to question any and all methods to heal any health condition.
